Life Lessons Learnt: Huacachina edition

I spent two days in Huacachina with my friend Sophie.

Unreal, right?

It’s a town made up of mostly a single lagoon and can be traversed by foot in about five minutes.

This is the entirety of Huacachina

It’s big draw are the amazing sand dunes that surround the town, and the insane things tourists have decided they should use the sand dunes for.

The town itself is a little bit pricy because it’s made up entirely of tourists, but it’s definitely worth a visit. I mean, who doesn’t want to hike up a massive sand dune, just to fling themselves down it on a piece of wood, and eat a whole lot of sand along the way?

Snowboarding glamour shot

Now for the advice.

-Sometimes it’s worth the extra 10 soles to be able to wiggle your legs on a 13 hour bus, even a little. Otherwise your feet swell.

-If you’re walking up sand dunes instead of doing to dune buggy tour, you won’t walk up high enough to need bindings on your sand board. Better to get the cheaper one, you’re not turning anyways, and will likely only end up tobogganing down.

The first attempt. We eventually gave up and tobogganed.

-Sand does not behave like snow, especially when sandboarding. Plus it gets into EVERYTHING.

-Just because you can walk 4 km through a desert to save 2 soles, doesn’t mean you should.

-Movies shown on buses must have at least one (but preferably more) of the following: gunshots, knives, swords, torture, rape, screaming, gore, crying, death, or sacrifice. Oh, and it must be at full volume, preferably on an overnight bus at midnight.
